The Urban Studies Foundation is excited to announce eight new International Fellowships in 2022. Each grant funding award will support a visiting sabbatical for an early-career scholar from the Global South, and is designed to support the development of their research publications and outputs. This year’s Fellows will travel from positions in Argentina, Brazil, Cameroon, Ghana, and India, and their work will be supported by mentorship from established scholars working in a related field of urban studies.
This year’s proposals reflect a continued diversity in subject area, with research programmes focused on topics ranging across homelessness activism, airport development, political representation, forced displacement, sexual geographies, and the place of the bicycle in urban planning. The USF is proud to continue to support the International Fellowship scheme, which runs annually and will re-open in early 2023.
This year’s International Fellows are:
- Dr Irene Appeaning Addo (University of Ghana, Ghana)
- Dr Dhiren Borisa (Jindal Global Law School, India)
- Dr Mónica Farías (University of Buenos Aires, Argentina)
- Dr Telma Hoyler (Centre for Metropolitan Studies, Brazil)
- Dr Prosper Korah (SD Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies, Ghana)
- Dr Salifou Ndam (University of Yaounde 1, Cameroon)
- Dr César Simoni Santos (University of São Paulo, Brazil)
- Dr Renata Summa (Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil)
The Fellows will be supported by host institutions and research communities in several countries, including Canada, South Africa, and the United Kingdom. Mentorship support from each institution is essential to each Fellowship, and the USF is grateful to this year’s mentors for their commitment to the scheme. The 2022 International Fellowship mentors are: Gavin Brown, Ryan Burns, Patrick Cobbinah, Claire Colomb, Matt Davies, James Ogude, Patrick Rérat, and Alan Walks.
