Enhanced connectivity or urban bypassing? Examining two Chinese transport infrastructure projects in Kenya

Zhengli Huang is a researcher at Tongji University. She obtained an M.Sc. in Urban Design in Germany, and her PhD dissertation focused on informal settlements in Nairobi. During her PhD, she interned at UN-Habitat, engaged in the Slum Upgrading Programme and a research project in the Lake Victoria Region.
Her research interest and recent work focuses on urban development in Sub-Saharan Africa and the impact from Global China. She has also been engaged in research on the Swahili heritage and urban regeneration along the East Coast of Africa, and played an active role in forging China-Africa collaboration in the field urban conservation. She has also published in reputable journals such as Urban Studies, Environment and Planning A: Economy and Space, Antipode, Urban China, among others.
As a USF International Fellow, Zhengli Huang will further develop her research on an urbanizing Africa in the scope of a dynamic global power structure. She will spend three months working with Professor Tom Goodfellow at the Department of Urban Studies and Planning, University of Sheffield.
