Living together in the context of Brexit: Migrant-‘host’ encounters in the East End of Glasgow

Funding period: 1 March 2017 – 29 December 2019
Type of funding: Postdoctoral Research Fellowship

Anna is an interdisciplinary researcher and works across urban studies, human geography and sociology. She specialises in migration and social diversity, and is interested in relations between migrant and ‘host’ populations, and their experiences of difference in urban contexts. In her current project, she explores how Polish migrants and the long-settled population ‘live together’ in the East End of Glasgow, Scotland in the context of Brexit. Specifically, she looks at everyday interactions, relationships, solidarities and concerns in this increasingly diverse and rapidly changing urban area. She also investigates sense of security and belonging and how they are shaped by Brexit. In doing so, she intends to contribute to debates on migration-driven diversity in UK cities and emerging conversations on the impact of Brexit on urban communities. Anna is a qualitative researcher and her work engages with reflexive and intersectional methodologies.
